Demystifying the N-400 1-out-of-3 Reading Rule

The English Reading Test portion of your N-400 citizenshipinterview is much simpler than you think. You do not need to read an entirebook or newspaper article. Here is how it actually works inside the room:

1. The officer will show you a sentence on a tablet or a piece of paper.
2. You need to read it out loud.
3. To pass, you only need to read ONE out of THREE sentences correctly.

Once you read one sentence correctly, the reading test stops, and you pass! Thes entences are strictly selected from the official USCIS vocabulary list. There are no surprise words, and no advanced grammar rules to worry about.
