The questions they always ask (and why)
May 31, 2026 · 1 min read
The questions they always verify:
🔹 Your full legal name and any other names you’veused 🔹 Your date of birth and country of birth 🔹 Your currentaddress and how long you’ve lived there 🔹 Your marital status, spouse, and children 🔹 Every trip outside the U.S. in the last 5 years (3 ifmarried to a citizen) 🔹 Your employment history 🔹 Whetheryou’ve been arrested, ticketed, or detained — ever 🔹 Whether you’vepaid your taxes 🔹 Whether you’ve registered for Selective Service (men18–26)
Then the eligibility questions:
🔹 Have you ever claimed to be a U.S. citizen? 🔹Have you ever voted in a U.S. election? 🔹 Have you ever lied to a U.S.government official? 🔹 Have you ever been a member of any group ororganization?
These aren’t trick questions. They’re verificationquestions. But “I don’t remember” is not a great answer at a naturalizationinterview.
The fix? Re-read your N-400 the night before. Knowwhat you wrote. Know your dates.
